Life as a mama can pretty much be summed up in one short-and-sweet word: chaotic.
Whether you’re navigating the blur of life with a newborn, juggling a toddler with one hand and dinner in the other, or trying to keep track of your teens social schedule, a mom’s life is never boring and certainly not simple.
You may not have control of how many hours your baby sleeps at night, or the wardrobe choices your three (or thirteen) year old makes, but luckily, you do have control over your wardrobe.
Since you’re a reader of The Mint Mom, chances are you already love fashion and leap at each and every chance you get to dress up in more than just yoga pants and a t-shirt. I know I do. But what happens when you do get that precious alone time to get ready? Are you staring into a closet packed to the brim with clothes you don’t really love? Have the words “I have nothing to wear” ever come out of your mouth? Mine too.
That’s the beauty of simplifying your wardrobe. Because while the rest of your life may feel like an endless to-do list, with a simplified wardrobe (oftentimes called a capsule wardrobe), you’ll be able to take all of the hassle out of choosing an outfit AND you’ll love each and every piece you own.
My passion for capsule wardrobes stemmed from a desire to live simply without sacrificing fashion. You can head over to my blog to see my personal capsules in-depth. But for now, I want to let you in on a few of the reasons why I believe simplifying is important; because before a capsule can happen, you have to simplify, simplify, simplify.
1 // It Teaches You How To Buy Pieces that Flow:
How many times have you bought something that you loved on the mannequin but when you got it home, it turns out it didn’t really go with anything you already owned? If you’re anything like me, I’m guessing quite a few times. With a capsule wardrobe, that won’t happen, because everything you buy will be planned out in advance for each season, giving your wardrobe a super cohesive feel.
2 // It Helps You Get to Know Your Personal Style:
Before I started my capsule wardrobes, I would buy anything I thought was cute. Half of what I bought, though, I never actually wore- because it wasn’t my style. I’ve learned that I love classic, minimalistic pieces like plain white tees, distressed denim, and stripes. Classic with a bohemian flair.
3 // It Allows You To Be In the Moment:
Another thing I’m passionate about is trying my best to be fully present in the moment. I think the most beautiful times are the ones that we generally overlook- the snuggles before bedtime when you’re too exhausted to keep your eyes open, the sweet moments that happen when the house is a mess and dinner isn’t cooked but you choose to look past it all.
It might seem like a stretch, but I truly believe having a simple wardrobe can help your mindset change to embrace the little things in life and slowly, one by one, simplify other areas too.
Have you ever considered simplifying your wardrobe or designing a capsule wardrobe for yourself? I promise you won’t regret it!
And if you’re looking for someone to guide you in the tedious process of simplifying, I can help! I offer services as a capsule consultant and would love to work with YOU!
