Hello Mamas, I have been so full with kids activities these past few weeks! Also, a ginormous move to San Francisco and eternal summer days have been keeping me busy. I am not going to lie, having a 7-year-old with a full pack of batteries and an almost 2-year-old at home has been so tiring!! Is it wrong that everything I plan for fun is indoors? I can’t with this Florida heat.
Hosting play dates at home is one of my favorite things to plan. I’m sharing my best ideas on hosting an engaging, entertaining and guaranteed to nap afterwards (not 100% on the nap…Haha) outdoor get together for your little ones.
- The Sweet Treats. Plan to serve some light bites. Make it extra special with these treats from Sugar Chic Design. These cookies are so beautifully crafted and deliciously fresh upon arrival. I knew I wanted a summery and beachy vibe for the theme and these were the perfect balance of playful and tasty. Your guests, both minis and mamas, will be blown away by them no matter what occasion! The polka dots bikini were the best!! The mamas all ate those first as if they were literally bikini bod ready remedies! HA! Sugar Chic Design cookies are impeccably custom-made. She can whip up a batch of your wildest dreams and make them a reality. Check out her work!
- The Decor. Setup a table that is inviting to little ones. I like to have a kids table setting where food and little toys are accessible for their reach. Watch those cookies though! I had a couple of eyes on them since they hit the stand! I decorated the table with fabric scraps I bought at Walmart. Layering the fabrics in different patterns looks bright and fun. I probably most enjoyed this detail since I doubt they cared ha!
- The Toys. Pick up a couple cheap toys for activities that’ll keep everybody occupied. Bubbles! Bubbles! I bought a pack of 6 bubble wand bottles for $3! I placed them in these mason jars I already owned. These were a hit and perfect for outdoors! The smaller containers made these perfect for little hands too. Another activity that is always engaging and quiet fun is ART! Getting messy with colors is always fun. I found these letters on clearance for $.50 each. I love having art I can save and use around the house.
Don’t forget good old reliable like balls! I gathered all of the beach and sports balls and set them all up in an ice container. It’ll be easier to clean up afterwards if you put them in the bucket. My yard is always littered with soccer, football, and beach balls and of course we can never find them when we need them. I added some pool noodles in the mix too. My boys love to run around with these inside and outside the house. These foam noodles are light and they make perfect swords or bats.
Have fun setting up a summer-ific play date outdoors for your kids to enjoy!!
